The sound of heavy metal guitars welcomed the kids as they entered the gymnasium on September 4. As principal Dan Girard gathered the 4th-6th graders for a quick assembly. As Mr. Girard “tried to fix the projector”, the unsuspecting students were suddenly jolted with adrenaline as the two warriors swooped in as if from another dimension! As they ran, weaving through the crowd, they screamed, growled and shook their fists in the air and high-fiving with their spiked arm bracers. The kids went wild.

After the initial rush, the warriors explained (with their medieval slideshow as a visual aid) that there is this thing the kids might be interested called the Worthington Wellness Warrior Run. It takes place on Friday, September 20 at McCord Middle School and your parents can help you register online at www.WorthingtonWellnessWarriors.com. Additionally, you can see pictures, video and keep up with the latest on their facebook page.
After the event information had been relayed, the warriors did something most unexpected… they began showing ribbons and medals (and armor?!) that participants can earn. To model the Medieval garb, they grabbed Mr. Girard by the shoulders and threw a horned helmet on him, followed by shoulder pads, and even… Medieval underwear? The ensemble was completed with a few smudges of black warrior paint on his face. As if transformed, Mr. Girard, who will also participate in the run, began to form fists and scream as well.
Fun was had by all and these teachers turned football/Viking warrior/arena rock stars got the kids excited about the upcoming event. It was pretty cool (or sick as the kids say).
